Hello Members:
Thanksgiving’s here! As you gather this year to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday, remember to give all of those you love an extra squeeze. Even though sometimes we find it hard to be thankful, let’s not forget all the little blessings in our lives, so let everyday of your life be a day of thanksgiving!
GET WELL:
Frank Stevens – We wish you a speedy recovery from your knee surgery and we are thinking of you.
Laura Theobald – You are in our thoughts and prayers, during all of your upcoming medical tests.
Sheri Mustian – We wish you well at Thanksgiving! You are forever in our hearts and prayers.
EVENTS:
October 25, 2008: Haunted Woods at Forever Florida:
We met at the Golden Corral on Semoran Blvd. A group of us had dinner there and were joined later by other club members. Dan and Fran Proudly, Dick Nits, Dave and Elaine Stanley, Glen and Darlene McPherson, Larry and Cindy Shepherd, Kevin and Carol Hollihan, Frank and Susan Stevens, Allen and Laura Theobald, Patrick Sidorchuk and Karen Bilhar, Jim Bott and Kelly Shaffer, Mike and Ro Castello.
We arrived at Forever Florida where we parked in a grassy field. However, as some of us got out of our vehicles, we immediately got into a nest of fire ants! So unfortunately, some members of the group did not even get to make it into the haunted house!!!!
But for those of us who dared to go on, we persevered into the night where ghouls and spooks awaited us. After the haunted houses, some of us went on for a hay ride under the beautiful night sky.
November 8, 2008: New Smyrna Beach Classic Car Show: A group from our club attended this fun cruise in. It was a great night for all, except for Barry & Beverly Luckenbach. After arriving at the cruise in Bev was starting to back into her parking spot and the transmission would not go in reverse due to a broken shift cable. After a tow home Bev had the car ready for our next outing.
November 11, 2008: Firkin Kegler – This Social was a surprise Birthday celebration for all our club members with November Birthdays! A special thanks to Carol Hoolihan, who supplied a delicious cake that she had specially made with our Corvette Club Logo in the center. Carol also supplied balloons and party favors. We had a large turn out and the folks at Firkin Kegler were wonderful to our group! Our birthday boys and girls included, Larry Shepherd, Ro Castello, Linda Nitz, Susan Stevens, Laura Theobald, Jim Bott and Kevin Hoolihan.
We had a surprise visit from a former Club President, John Whaley, it was great to see him. Also Ed and Sandra Merchant stopped by and joined our group for dinner. They had been on our web site and decided to drop in on us.
Our large group consisted of Kevin and Cindy Burch, Patrick Sidorchuk and Karen Bilhar, Allen and Laura Theobald, Dave and Elaine Stanley, Dave and Lisa Jessing, Bill and Sheri Mustian, Kevin and Carol Hoolihan, James and Marilyn Benjamin, Mike and Ro Castello, Glen and Darlene McPherson, Ron and Linda Palmore, Dan and Fran Prouty, Jim Bott and Kelly Shaffer, Carl and Sally Smith. Go to our web site to view upcoming photos of our social.
November 15, 2008: Garden Party Car Show at Cypress Gardens: A small group from our club attended this show. We headed over to Cypress Gardens on Saturday afternoon and checked into the hotel. We decided to get our own party started, so we all gathered in Dick and Linda Nitz’s room for cocktails and Hors d’oveuvres. We watched all the cars gather in the parking lot for a parade through downtown Winter Haven. We decided to stay at the hotel and get ready for the Bay Area Corvette Club’s welcome party. Mike and Ro Castello won two raffle prizes, way to go guys!!!!!
We woke up to some rather chilly weather on Sunday morning. We met up with Barry and Beverly Luckenbach and headed over to the show. Our club participants included Dick and Linda Nitz, Carl and Sally Smith, Kevin and Cindy Burch, Dave and Elaine Stanley, Barry and Beverly Luckenbach, Jim Bott and Kelly Shaffer, Mike and Ro Castello, Russell and Rose Howerter.
We were so proud of our club winners. The Florida Corvette Club took home the following awards:
Barry and Beverly Luckenbach won 1st place in C-1 Custom.
Russell and Rose Howerter won 2nd place Peoples Choice C-2
Mike and Ro Castello won the 3rd place Peoples Choice C-3
Dick and Linda Nitz won 3rd place Peoples Choice C-5.
GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!!!!!

November 22, 2008 – Mill Creek Farm and the Yearling Restaurant:
Our group got together Saturday morning at the Denny’s restaurant in Ocoee and we pulled out at 9:00 a.m. This group consisted of Jim Bott and Kelly Shaffer, Kevin and Carol Hoolihan, Larry and Cindy Shepherd, Glen and Darlene McPherson, Kevin and Cindy Burch, Dan and Fran Prouty, Patrick Sidorchuk and Karen Bilhar and Bill Mustain. We headed up I-75 towards Gainesville, we did run into some traffic with all the Gator Fans heading to the game, but once we got past the stadium exit, it was smooth sailing. We pulled into the Gainesville rest area where Dean and Linda Kumanchik, Dick and Linda Nitz, Dave and Elaine Stanley joined the group.
We pulled into the Mill Creek farm around 11:30 a.m. If you have never been here, it is worth the trip. This equine sanctuary opened in 1984 by Mary and Peter Gregory. This haven for old, abused and neglected horses allows them to roam freely in large tree-studded pastures. This horse haven is completely supported by contributions. The 245 acre farm is open to the public each Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can stroll the paths stopping to feed these wonderful creatures. They will come right up to the fence and take the carrots from you. Some of them will let you pet them. It was a wonderful experience for all of us and the only thing we each regretted was not bringing enough carrots, there are over 130 horses. We certainly all agreed we will be back next year.
We took a drive over to the historical town of Micanopy and strolled the streets and did some window shopping in the antique stores. From there, we went to lunch at the Yearling restaurant. After a wonderful lunch, we all headed home. Check out our web site for upcoming photos.
