FCC Ormond Beach
July 26, 2008

Kudos to Carl and Sally Smith for hosting and planning a fabulous activity on Saturday, July 26, 2008. A group of us met for breakfast at the Smokehouse Grill in Sanford, and by 9:15 a.m. the rest of the group met up with us and we were ready to head out. We were so glad that Dave and Judy Putz were able to join us for breakfast, even though they were not able to join us for the outing.

After a briefing from Carl, we headed north and drove through Cassadega, the roads Carl and Sally selected were superb, we saw some beautiful Florida scenes. In total, we had 12 cars for this journey. The weather was spectacular, not a cloud in the sky, with just a slight breeze.

From there, we headed towards Ormond Beach, unfortunately for Frank and Susan Stevens, all they were able to focus on was the break light on their dash flashing, but not to worry, Larry and Cindy Shephard were in front of them, and Larry’s blue Z06 bumper would have been quite helpful if a quick stop had been needed! We made an unscheduled stop so that Frank could check out this problem, and after a quick check, all seemed to be in order so we continued north.

Our next stop was at the Publix on Hwy 40 and I-95, where we were able to get out and stretch and use the restrooms. Some of the ladies did some unplanned shopping! After a short break, we were on the move again, however this time Joe and Carol Sparks had some technical difficulties , and as we were pulling out of the parking lot, their corvette refused to go and just shut down. After a push back into the Publix parking lot by other club members, our club mechanics rallied under the hood with some serious discussion and debating, within five minutes, the car restarted!!

The group decided to forego the Ormond Loop and headed straight for Martin’s restaurant where we had a great lunch. After lunch, so folks headed home, while some of us wandered across the street to the beach. A few brave soles, Glen McPherson and Jim Bott decided to go for a swim in the cool water. The rest of us lounged in our chairs and took in some sun.

At the start of the trip, we all took an estimated guess of the mileage for the day, the winners were Larry & Cindy Shepherd, Joe & Carol Sparks, and Claude & Stefanie LaBorde. Overall, it was a great day and everyone enjoyed this relaxing trip to Flagler Beach. So to everyone who participated, Bill & Sheri Mustian, Dave & Lisa Jessing, Ron & Linda Davis, Claude & Stefanie LaBorde, Joe & Carol Sparks, Frank & Susan Stevens, Glen & Darlene McPherson, Larry & Cindy Shepherd, David & Elaine Stanley, Allen & Laura Theobald, Jim Bott & Kelly Shaffer, and last but not least Carl & Sally Smith, thanks for making this July activity one to remember. And or those of you who were unable to come along, you were missed and we hope that you are able to join us at next month’s activity.
