Classic Car Museum
July 2007
|
Our activity for July28th started at the rest stop on I-4 just past highway 27 at 7:00. Once we all had arrived we pulled out with seven cars and caravanned to Tarpon Spring to the Classic Car Museum. There we picked up four more cars and tried to get people together for pictures.
Story continued after the pics.

We toured with other groups about 75 people in all. Entering the showroom there were all kinds of cars; all old, some for sale and some to view. There were antiques and one of kinds. After an hour we were handed maps to Al's private collection down the road.
We drove our cars to his garage which was an old fire station house. Well, when we arrived let me tell you; this fire station was a beautiful home with several garages with his memorabilia very nicely displayed. There were cars, motorcycles, trucks, vans, signs, posters, gadgets, antiques, piano, bar, soda fountain etc… We walked from garage to garage viewing cars after cars. The tour was a car lovers dream and a must see for $8.00. We had this planned since last year because it's hard to get into. About 12:00 noon we were done and some people headed to the sponge docks to shop and five couples headed to The Quaker State restaurant for lunch.
This place is a must see! The outside looked like a car garage, the outside bar looked like the garage doors where you pull the cars in and place them on the lifts. Inside there was a corvette room with a vette on the lift and one being suspended from the ceiling racing around the track at Daytona. There was history all over the walls. The bar inside was a racing room. The food was great and sites were something to see. Thanks to Frank and Sue who picked the restaurant.
From here three of the couples decided to travel to the Italian deli off of highway 19. This deli had expanded and now had a winery inside where we did some wine tasting and buying. There was cheese galore at the deli. The meats were cut to order. The bakery had pastries, pies, and canolli's. People were sitting at the cappuccino bar having conversations. This was an Italian's supermarket. We all bought food and headed to the cars. We had to stop at Wal-Mart for coolers to keep the food cold until we got home.
On the way back to Orlando Frank and Sue, Claude and Stefanie and Patrick and Karen raced back playing keeps up to Stephanie who had too much espresso. We stopped off at Rev It Up at Disney Epcot. Here we had tickets, thanks to Dave Putz who let us use his tickets. Dave broke his arm and couldn't race so he kindly gave them to Patrick to use. Sorry about your fall but we hope you have a quick recovery Dave. Once inside we sat in on classes which instruct you on how to race and use the car to your advantage. There were several classes on different things. A race car driver drove you around in a Z07. There was a practice run on auto crossing in colbolts. Then it was the real thing. There were prizes for the fastest times, once the traveling tour was over. Someone is going to win a new corvette. It could be one of us! This was well worth it because if you never auto crossed before this is prefect because you don't have to use your car or wear down your tires. If this comes to town next year I highly recommend Rev It Up! We then headed home at 8:00 after a full day out.
