Mystery Trip Five
October 30 - 31, 2004

We had a great turnout of 20 corvettes (and 1 motorcycle thru lunch) and 41 people. The first part of the outing, we took a drive though some great back roads. (You could really tell where the storms came through.) Prior to our first stop we drove through a small town, where we saw a 1977 Blue Corvette that really needed rescuing (no tow truck) had to leave her.
Our official stop was in this town called “Bowling Green” (Florida that is not Kentucky), see our group picture in front of the Bowling Green sign.
Our lunch stop was at a castle, yes a real castle called “Solomon's Castle.” It was definitely a one of a kind place. Mr. Solomon is a tinker, artist, wood craver and some what eccentric. He built the castle out of discarded aluminum news paper printing plates. We had lunch in “The Boat in the Mote”, also built by Admiral Solomon. And then we divided into three groups and were given a tour of the Castle and the grounds. The Castle contained years of Admiral Solomon's art work and sculptures. Once we were done with lunch and the tours we left for our final destination. Did I mention we played poker?
The drive to our final destination took about an hour and 45 minutes. Where you ask did we end up? Treasure Island, FL (see postcard). After we checked into our rooms; great rooms (small condos). The view from our rooms of the Gulf was absolutely breathtaking. We all went to dinner at Capt. Kosmako's. After dinner we announced the winners of the destination guess-Bill & Sheri Mustian (they were right on the money and guessed, Treasure Island.) The booby prize guess went to Michael & Louanne Sincavage for their guess of “Heaven” (it would be heaven wherever we ended up as long as they were with friends...awe). The mileage guess went to Mike & Ro Castello. As far as the poker hand I did not win and I forgot who did. After dinner, we went back to the hotel for a Gulf side, pool side party to celebrate three birthdays with cake, chips, drinks and lots of conversation and fun.
On Sunday some of us went out for breakfast, some stayed for the Grouper festival and some drove up the coast.
We all want to thank Jim Bott, Laura and Allen Theobald for a great job of planning, organizing and giving all of us a truly great weekend.
