On August 26th 2006 the FCC had their activity to Tarpon Springs, Fl. We met at the rest stop off of I4 at 9:00 then we caravanned to Tarpon Springs with 19 people. Before we got there it started to pour down rain, but that didn't stop us. We parked at the Castle Winery where they gave us preferred parking right in front. We went inside and for $4.50 you got to taste winery and this was their 2nd anniversary which they celebrated with music, food and crafts. There were tables and chairs with umbrellas set up, very quaint little place. This European style tasting room of the winery is dedicated to the fine art of winemaking. This is in the heart of the historical district with a boasts of an Italian style walled in courtyard with four fountains and a wrought iron gazebo. There was a full buffet of food free to those who went through the winery. As we finished up so did the rain. We hopped on the trolley right in front of the winery; and for $3.00, it was a hop on hop off all day to museums, churches, mansions, sponge docks etc...

We stopped at the sponge docks and walked around. Some of us went to the aquarium, the fudge factory, shopping for shoes, sponges, shirts and more. The docks is an area popular with Greek shopping and restaurants since 1905 when New York sponge exporter John Cocoris recruited divers from the Dodecanese Islands. We returned to the winery on the trolley, and everyone left in small groups home after buying cases of wine.

It was a great day and missed the rain where ever we went but we sure did drive in it all the way home. Thanks to all who made it a success!
